WIADCA' s New York Caribbean Carnival kicks off with Reggae Unda Di Stars

Tthe West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) will kick off Labor Day with an exciting musical lineup starting on Thursday, September 1st and ending Monday, September 5th with North America's largest dance party on Eastern Parkway.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Aug. 28, 2016 - PRLog -- The eagerly awaited and most exciting event for 2016 - New York's Caribbean Carnival is around the corner!   On Thursday, Sept 1st, the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) will kick off New York Caribbean Carnival, with its eagerly anticipated Reggae Unda Di Stars, featuring world famous Reggae entertainers – including Third World, Christopher Martin, and Romain Virgo.  On Friday, WIADCA's annual Stay In School Concert and College Fair begins at 11am, followed by the Brass Fest Concert with headliners KES The Band, Roy Cape All Stars, Outta Limitz, Farmer Nappy, Blaxx, Ricardo Drue, Lyrikal, and more.  September 3rd, starts off with Junior Carnival (9am to 5pm) Steelband Panorama competition (8pm), with 12 steel orchestras vying for the 2016  Champion title. On Sunday Dimanche Gras, September 4th we showcase the creative talents of dozens of costume designers as they present breathtaking costumes competing for King and Queen of the Bands, Individuals and Characters along with the best in Calypso music with performances by David Rudder, Natasha Wilson, Gryner, Boodoosingh Tassa Drummers, Something Positive traditional carnival characters and the grand finale on September 5th, the annual New York Caribbean Carnival Parade, North America's largest dance party on Eastern Parkway from 11:00am – 6:00pm.

Grand Marshals include: Hon. Melissa Mark-Viverito, NY City Council Speaker, Hon. Barbara Atherly, Consul General of Guyana, HE Keith HL Tony Marshall, US Ambassador to Barbados, Conrad Ifill, President & CEO, Conrad's Famous Bakery.  Other notables expected to join the line-up are: NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo, NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio, Zakiya Carr Johnson, Dir. Race, Ethnicity & Social Inclusion Unit, US State Dept, Brooklyn DA Kenneth Thompson, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, WIADCA's President William R. Howard, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Senior Officials at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), members of the Caribbean Consular Corp, CARICOM and several corporate sponsors along with many others.

For the second year, WIADCA will again have 3 pre-teen Grand Marshals leading the Junior Parade - all very talented and exemplary children: They are: Henry Olisa (DJ-H20) Egypt Ify Ufele, CEO Chubiiline Bully Chasers and Jaheim Fraser from Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy.
