INDEPENDENCE, Iowa - Aug. 27, 2016 - PRLog -- High School football season is here and the Independence Mustangs were at home against West Delaware. The atmosphere was bright as the talented light show and the Indee Band was on hand showing their talent too. After the opening kickoff...The Mustangs started off hot! Mustang DB, Sam Graeser, picked off the first West Delaware pass and things were looking good. The Indee Mustangs were not able to score and the ball went back to the Hawks. The Hawks took advantage of the turn of events and went down the field to score and took an early 7-0 lead.

Things didn't get any better for the Mustangs as West Delaware tightened their defense and limited what Indee wanted to do on offense. After the first quarter...The Hawks were up 21-0. The Mustangs put together some nice long runs and passes, but Junior QB, Kenyon Hosch, was sidelined with an injury that didn't help the comeback. However, backup QB, Sean Geertsema played well and put together some nice drives. West Delaware won the game 48-0 and Independence is looking ahead to next week to bounce back.
