Katherine Johnson is 98 years old today. She was employed by NASA for 33 years as a physicist, space scientist, and mathematician
ATLANTA - Aug. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- Babycarrier Washable Backpack LLC today announced their latest E-Book on Amazon to commemorate the contributions of Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson. She was a trailblazer, "human computer" hired by NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) in 1953, the agency that preceded NASA. She was one of a number of African-American women hired to work as "computers" in what was then their Guidance and Navigation Department.

NACA was beginning its work on space. She became known for her training in geometry, leadership, and her inquisitive nature. She was the only woman at the time to be pulled from the computing pool to work with engineers on other programs.

She was instrumental in calculating and verifying the trajectories (trajectory or flight path means a path that a moving object follows through space as a function of time) that took the first Americans into space and to the Moon.

Since her retirement in 1986, she has dedicated her life to the STEM Program (STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

In 2015, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her contributions to the United States Space flight program.

An important milestone was also reached on this day. August 26th is Women's Equality Day, to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote.

"HIDDEN FIGURES" is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) — brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
