SILICON VALLEY, Calif. - Aug. 24, 2016 - PRLog -- While the Olympics were going on in Rio, San Jose-based band Randy Hansen and the Angry Neighbors was representing the USA at the 10th China International Folk Arts Festival in Qinghai Province, China. The triennial event was sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) and held in the city of Xining, the largest city and capital of Qinghai.

More than 300 artists representing 12 countries and China performed at the festival, which ran August 8-13 and included two gala performances, several regional shows, and a closing ceremony. Held at the Qinghai Grand Theatre, the Opening Gala was attended by 2500 including local and national dignitaries and taped for a national broadcast. The additional regional performances held throughout the Qinghai Province, many in cities closed to tourism, each had 3000-5000 people in attendance.

"The US has created the greatest genre of music ever: rock and roll. Everyone in the band grew up loving it and are passionate about playing it. It was a great honor to represent American Rock at the festival," Said Randy Hansen, band leader and songwriter of the group's all original music.

Zhang Xihai, the Deputy Director General of the International Liaison Department of CFLAC, explains the mission of the festival, "The language of music and folk art has no boundaries; we can all share it. The grand goal is to build bridges, to find a common platform for every artist. Even without a common background, (the groups) work together to produce something that can be appreciated by people of different cultural backgrounds. We need to understand (each other); the more knowledge we have of each other the better. America and China are far away in distance but close in mind and hearts, with so many people that study and travel (between the two countries)."

Following the performances in Xining for the Folk Art Festival, CFLAC invited the bands from the USA and the Netherlands to travel 450 miles east to Baoji, in the western Shaanxi province, for an International Art Exchange Show with local emerging artists and to meet with the musician's association.

The USA band Randy Hansen and the Angry Neighbors includes Randy Hansen, lead vocals and guitar; Rob Edwards on lead guitar; Russ Klein on bass; Ilya Umansky on keyboards; Steve Hlavica on drums.

About the band: Randy Hansen and the Angry Neighbors have been performing original music together since 2011 throughout the San Francisco Bay Area at numerous clubs and festivals. A sample of venues played includes the Rockbar Theater in San Jose, JJs Blues in San Jose, Nine Lives Club in Gilroy, Santana Row in San Jose, Hollister Rally in Hollister, Henfling's Tavern in Ben Lomond.
