Follow on Google News | ![]() Aruba Says 'we Do' As Top Romantic DestinationTying the knot on its reputation as the perfect destination for couples, Aruba has been named as The Most Romantic Destination of the Year in the Caribbean under an international awards programme.
UK & Ireland country manager for the Aruba Tourism Authority, Joanna Walding, commented: 'It's a wonderful achievement for the island, given the huge competition from numerous islands across the Caribbean. Aruba prides itself on service and quality, which are key elements for romantic breaks, and we are delighted that this has shone through and been recognised by the judges.' Awards will be presented to winners at a dinner to be held in London on Monday, November 7, the first day of international travel event, World Travel Market at ExCel. This latest award for Aruba comes as UK visitor numbers – and those travelling for weddings and honeymoons – continue to grow. Last year, they reached a record of more than 12,300 British travellers, an increase of almost 18 per cent on 2014. Globally, visitor number this year are currently running 55 per cent up. Meanwhile, more than 1,400 of last year's UK visitors went to the island for their honeymoon or to get married – just over 11 per cent of the total and an increase of more than 19 per cent over the previous year. Apart from its obvious attractions of year-round sunshine, white sand beaches, the lapping blue Caribbean Sea and outstanding quality and range of hotel accommodation, Aruba offers extensive wedding planning services, with many major hotels having a dedicated team to help couples with all arrangements.
