Southern Energy Management launches Energy Storage Option

C-based solar provider partnering with Sonnen to provide lithium lon batteries

MORRISVILLE, N.C. - Aug. 23, 2016 - PRLog -- North Carolina-based Southern Energy Management announced today it will be providing solar energy storage solutions to residential households in North and South Carolina.

The company is partnering with German manufacturer Sonnen to offer lithium ion batteries in conjunction with its existing solar PV system business line.

The batteries can be used as backup power during grid outages or for pricing arbitrage for households with differing on-peak and off-peak rates of electricity.  Given the stark difference between the two, homeowners often draw on their solar and battery system during expensive peak times rather than buy from the grid.

"We're excited to be providing the next step in energy independence and security for our customers," says Bob Kingery, president of Southern Energy Management. "With technology costs falling and energy prices rising there's now a compelling economic argument for these kinds of storage solutions."

Consumer interest in the market is also on the rise with headlines emerging about Tesla's acquisition of SolarCity and storage as an increasingly mainstream consumer product.

The batteries range in size from 4kWh to 16kWh and are typically mounted close to the home's electrical supply. The company does not plan on offering commercial-grade storage solutions at this time.
