Beyond the Canvas exhibition celebrates the transition from traditional art to bodypainting
Matt Deifer, Bodypaint.Me founder, and Joy Taney, recent Skin Wars: Fresh Paint champion, will display their paintings, fine art bodypaint photography, live bodypainted models and a viewing of a new bodypaint documentary.
Admission to this event is free at the Get It Gallery's 1119 Leopard Street location. Beyond The Canvas' additional entertainment includes bodypainted models, DJ sets by Get Up, Aaron Ruxbin, Mr. Manic and Mutomb0 and a live viewing of the Matt Deifer/Bodypaint.Me documentary.
The modern medium of body painting, in addition to its tools, subjects, techniques and technology, is relatively new and still growing. While Matt Deifer is among the more experienced painters, having his art published both stateside and overseas as a professional bodypainter for six years, Joy Taney is among the newest generation of painters inspired by the wide reach of televised body painting competitions such as Skin Wars and Skin Wars: Fresh Paint. Joy was featured on the season finale of Skin Wars: Fresh Paint where she was trained and completed her first three finished paintings, and won the episode's competition. Since then, Joy has trained under Matt Deifer and worked with Bodypaint.Me during a variety of performances, festivals, events and studio sessions. Both painters can be found the following Saturday, September 10th, painting the participants of the 8th annual Philly Naked Bike Ride.
"Beyond the Canvas" will run through October 1, 2016. The artists will be present at the opening reception Saturday, September 3rd from 6:00 - 11:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday - Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and by appointment. For additional information visit http://www.bodypaint.me.
