San Diego Aviators Top NY Empire, 24-16, Earn Mylan World TeamTennis Finals Berth

NEW YORK - Aug. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- Darija Jurak (women's, mixed doubles), Ryan Harrison (singles, men's doubles) and Raven Klaasen (men's, mixed doubles) each won two events apiece, leading the San Diego Aviators to a 24-16 Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO victory over the host New York Empire presented by Citi at Forest Hills Stadium at The West Side Tennis Club tonight. With the win, the Aviators clinch a berth in the Mylan WTT Finals presented by Citi, August 26 at Forest Hills Stadium.

Harrison got things started for the Aviators by rallying for a 5-3 men's singles victory over Marcus Willis. Women's singles was next, with Christina McHale of the Empire edging Shelby Rogers 5-4 to narrow the hosts' deficit to one game. Next came mixed doubles, with the Aviators' tandem of Klaasen and Jurak downing Maria Irigoyen and Neal Skupski, 5-3, for a 14-11 San Diego lead.

After the break, women's doubles was next, with Rogers and Darija Jurak extending the visitors' margin to 19-13 with a 5-2 triumph over McHale and Irigoyen. Men's doubles concluding the proceedings, Harrison and Klaasen finishing off the match with a 5-3 win over Willis and Skupski.

The Empire (2-9) conclude their inaugural Mylan WTT season at the Springfield Lasers on Saturday. San Diego (8-3) visits Philadelphia on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
