LOS ANGELES - Aug. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- Fostering Media Connections, a nonprofit journalism organization that works to improve the lives of vulnerable children through solution-based journalism, has added two new full-time employees to strengthen its community outreach and strategic partnerships.

Fostering Media Connections reports and produces original news content, which is published in The Chronicle of Social Change. By marketing those stories to other media outlets, FMC has spurred follow-up coverage in news publications and programs such as CNBC, the Oprah Winfrey Network, and The Los Angeles Times among many others. That coverage has helped drive important changes in public policy at the local and national levels.

"I am so excited to welcome these two new members to our team," said Daniel Heimpel, executive director of Fostering Media Connections. "Considering their academic and professional accomplishments, Holden and Elizabeth come into their roles fully prepared to have great success in extending Fostering Media Connections' reach."

As the Distribution and Engagement Manager, Holden Slattery will help Fostering Media Connections share the content it produces with media outlets. In addition, he will work on strategic partnerships with media organizations and publishers.

As the Community Outreach and Education Manager, Elizabeth Green will deepen FMC's on-the-ground presence by coordinating high-impact events. She will develop subscriber content in The Chronicle of Social Change with a focus on funding opportunities and trends in philanthropy.

Slattery and Green were both students in Media for Policy Change, a course that Heimpel teaches at USC's Sol Price School of Public Policy. After completing the course, Slattery and Green each worked for Fostering Media Connections as summer fellows. In May, they both earned master's degrees through the Price School.

Fostering Media Connections was formed in 2010 and in October 2015 moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Los Angeles, which is home to the nation's largest child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

Fostering Media Connections is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that harnesses the power of journalism to advance child welfare reform by covering emerging solutions to the system's challenges. The Chronicle of Social Change is a national online news site published by Fostering Media Connections that produces daily news about child welfare, juvenile justice and children's mental health issues.
