Miami Latin Construction Lawyers Deliver Key Solution to Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Unique Program Provides First-Ever Forum for Complex Dispute Resolution Board in Brazil
By: Peckar & Abramson

MIAMI - Aug. 8, 2016 - PRLog -- The national construction law firm of Peckar & Abramson, P.C. is pleased to announce that construction attorney Jerry P. Brodsky, Director of the firm's Latin American Practice

Group, has successfully taken the lead on developing a first-of-its-kind Dispute Board Program for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Brodsky, who was appointed in 2014 as the Dispute Board Program Manager by the Rio 2016 Olympic Organizing Committee, and Brazilian construction attorney Victor Madeira, led a team of U.S. and Latin American attorneys in the development of the program, which provides dispute board resolution services for the approximately fifty (50) contracts and service agreements for non-permanent structures and

services for the 2016 Games. The team led by Brodsky and Madeira is comprised of members of the Dispute Board Review Foundation (DRBF), as well as a group of highly qualified Latin American construction law attorneys.

Brodsky and Madeira, along with the full Rio 2016 Dispute Board Program team, congratulate everyone involved in the development of the Board. "We are exceedingly grateful to everyone involved,

especially the Rio 2016 organizers, the contractors and others tasked with building the structures, and most of all, the people of Brazil. We wish everyone success at the Games!" said Brodsky.

Organized in only four months, and without funding from Rio 2016, the Rio 2016 Dispute Board Program provides for a dynamic and effective approach to contemporaneous dispute resolution, and a powerful tool to manage the risk of disputes which could threaten the tight construction schedule of various structures critical to the success of these events. Adding to the complexity, this is the first time that a dispute board program has been instituted in Brazil.

In order to develop a sophisticated stable of experienced board members for the Rio 2016 Dispute Board Program, Brodsky's team not only recruited top local talent, but also tapped into the substantial experience base of Construlegal®—a network of lawyers and construction law firms in the Americas, co-founded by Peckar & Abramson in 2010. The team trained and certified a total of 99 new dispute board members in order to deliver a contractual dispute board program compatible with the Rio 2016 objectives, as well as local business culture and legislation.

Peckar & Abramson, P.C. maintains offices in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Texas and Pennsylvania and has affiliations with global firms in Latin America through its founding membership in Construlegal®, as well as in the London and China. In addition to its core construction practice, the Peckar & Abramson lawyers counsel contractors on labor and employment matters, corporate and regulatory compliance issues, including D/M/WBE compliance and general corporate and real estate matters.
