McCarthy Building Companies to Renovate Arredondo Elementary School in Tempe, Ariz

TEMPE, Ariz. - Aug. 4, 2016 - PRLog -- McCarthy Building Companies Inc. (www.mccarthy.com) and the Tempe Elementary School District recently broke ground on a major renovation project for Arredondo Elementary School in Tempe, Ariz.

The school, which was originally built in 1973, will undergo extensive renovations over the 2016-17 school year expanding the campus more than 66,000 square feet, with additional classrooms, a project lab and an assessment lab.

The campus will also feature:

Ÿ Six common spaces throughout the campus within the classroom areas (breakout areas with

secondary supervision)

Ÿ A new updated learning commons (library), renovated multipurpose room and a 3,500-square-foot cafeteria with a new kitchen/serving area

Ÿ Increased parent and staff parking and student drop-off and pick-up

Ÿ Enlarged and dedicated bus drop-off and pick-up location

Ÿ Day lighting within all classrooms, new building lighting and mechanical systems, which will result in energy savings

Ÿ Security upgrades throughout the campus

Ÿ Outdoor learning spaces

During the renovation, Arredondo students will be relocated to the Meyer Elementary School campus for the 2016-2017 school year.

The $11.8 million project is being funded thanks to the passage of a bond election in 2009. The architect on the project is DLR Group. Construction is slated for completion in July 2017.

Arredondo Elementary School's name honors longtime Tempe residents Alejandro and Josefa Arredondo. Mrs. Arredondo worked in Tempe Elementary cafeterias. All of the Arredondo children have worked in education.
