Gift of Life Walk and 5K benefiting Tennessee Kidney Foundation

The annual Gift of Life Walk and 5K brings together hundreds of runners, walkers, kidney patients, transplant recipients, nephrologists, dialysis nurses and social workers, and members of the community who care about kidney-related issues.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Aug. 22, 2016 - PRLog -- Tennessee Kidney Foundation (TKF) will host its annual Gift of Life Walk and 5K event on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 10. The one-mile walk and the 5K race both take place at the Richland Creek Greenway in West Nashville at the 41st Avenue trailhead.

While the one-mile walk is free, the 5K is $25 to register. All walk registrants are encouraged to set up teams and fundraiser for the programs of TKF, with anyone raising at least $50 qualifying for a t-shirt and other prizes. Companies can support a good cause through sponsorship. All proceeds of the Gift of Life Walk and 5K remain local with TKF.

All proceeds will help TKF continue in its aim of improving the quality of life of people affected by kidney disease and transplantation in the Middle Tennessee area. More than 10,000 people in Tennessee have chronic kidney disease and more than 2,600 are on the waiting list for a transplant. TKF provides direct support and resources for these individuals.

"The Gift of Life Walk and 5K is a unique event in that individuals affected by kidney disease, transplant recipients, organ donors, their families, and all the medical professionals and social workers who support their journeys can all come together to celebrate the gift of life. This event is also a wonderful way to support the programs of the Tennessee Kidney Foundation," said Heather Powell, TKF's chief executive officer. "The programs of TKF aim to help create a better quality of life for individuals affected by kidney-related issues, including chronic kidney disease and transplantation and shed light on what is often a silent threat to more than 10,000 individuals in the state of Tennessee alone."

Participants are encouraged to walk or run in teams with family or friends. TKF is proud of the participation of patients who come back to support TKF by forming teams and racing in the event. Benefits of forming teams include early packet pickup, the option of wearing team or company names on race day, the friendly competition of creating a team page, and prizes.

Prizes will be awarded to participants and teams. Qualifications for prizes include the team with the most members, the team or individual who raises the most money, and lucky new registrants. Winning teams will be featured on TKF's social media channels and in an e-newsletter.

TKF encourages companies to consider sponsorship. Packages are available and range from $200 to $8,000. Company names and logos will be featured on TKF publicity materials, T-shirts and entry forms.
