The campers in kindergarten through eighth grade got a chance to tour the inside of the sheriff station and then had an up-close look at the department's helicopter. Campers wore blue to show their support, brought fresh cookies, candy, framed pictures that said "Some Heroes Wear Capes, Ours Wear a Badge," thank you cards from second through eighth graders and artwork for kindergarteners and first graders.
"We wanted to do something special for everyone at Lost Hills who puts their lives at risk every day in order to protect each of us, our children, our families and our community," says Chrissy Withers, co-executive director at the Triunfo Y. "Our community is the amazing place it is because of all they do. Dept. Lt. Josh Tai and Sharona Kay, a law enforcement technician, both helped us pull off the surprise. They were gracious hosts."
The local YMCA branches (Triunfo YMCA, Conejo Valley YMCA, Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park and Simi Valley Family YMCA) strive to reach out to other nonprofits and community groups. "There are incredible organizations in our area, including our sheriff's department,"
