NEW YORK - July 29, 2016 - PRLog -- New York native Noah Rubin, in his second year on the ATP World Tour and the 2014 Wimbledon Junior Champion and USTA Boys Champion, and Southern California native Daniel Nguyen will compete for the New York Empire presented by Citi in select Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO matchups next week. Rubin, currently ranked at No. 190, will play singles and doubles against the Springfield Lasers on Wednesday, August 3, at Forest Hills Stadium at The West Side Tennis Club, while the Oxnard, Calif., resident Nguyen will battle for the Empire in their matches at the San Diego Aviators on Friday, August 5, and Orange County Breakers on Saturday, August 6. They will compete in place of regular roster player Guido Pella, who will represent his native Argentina in the Rio Olympics after playing in the first three Empire matches on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Rubin, 20, starred at Wake Forest University, earning ACC Player of the Year honors during the 2014-15 academic year in Winston-Salem, N.C., reaching the finals of the NCAA singles championships. The John McEnroe Tennis Academy product was also the 2015 ACC Freshman of the Year before turning professional in July 2015.

As a pro, the Long Island-raised Rubin scored his biggest win this year at the Australian Open, toppling 18th-ranked Benoit Paire of France in straight sets.

Nguyen, 25, turned pro in 2013 and currently ranks at No. 235 on Tour. He won eight ITF Futures events and last year reached the finals at the ITF Challenger in Tallahassee, Fla. The USC product helped the Trojans clinch the 2011 NCAA team title against Virginia.

"I am truly excited to play in front of a home crowd," said Rubin. "Being from New York, I grew up watching World TeamTennis and it will be great to compete in it."

"We are thrilled to be able to have such talented, rising young Americans in Noah Rubin and Daniel Nguyen compete for us next week," said Empire General Manager Colleen Hopkins. "Fans will like Noah's all-out style on the court, and we hope New Yorkers will come out to support one of their own as he plays for his hometown team. We are also pleased that Empire fans on the West Coast will be able to cheer on a local favorite in our important matches in San Diego and Orange County."

The New York Empire season begins Sunday vs. the five-time defending Mylan WTT champion Washington Kastles, the first of six home dates through August 12.
