Follow on Google News | Gregory Garrett Appointed to LeadingAge New York Board of DirectorsBy: Peconic Landing Founded in 1961, the advocacy organization represents not-for-profit, mission-driven and public continuing care providers, including nursing homes, senior housing, Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), assisted living and community service providers dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging. Gregory Garrett has played an active role in the organization for the past three years and serves on the organization's cabinet representing CCRCs. It is one of many specialty committees that work to advance policies, promote practices and conduct research that supports, enables and empowers the senior housing sector and care providers nationwide. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in late May when he was also appointed President of the CCRC Cabinet. "Greg's programmatic expertise and commitment to serving seniors will be a tremendous asset to our board," said James W. Clyne Jr., President and CEO of LeadingAge New York. Mr. Garrett is a licensed NYS Nursing Home Administrator, Certified Aging Services Professional, Certified Nursing Home Administrator and a member of the American College of Health Care Administrators. He joined Peconic Landing in 2006 and became Executive Vice President/Administrator of Health Services in 2009. "In his new role, Greg can help advocate for seniors across New York State," said Robert J. Syron, President and CEO of Peconic Landing. "We are proud to have him serving on the board." The second generation of his family to pursue a career in senior services, Garrett grew up visiting and working with his father at a nursing home in northern New York. His father was also an active member of LeadingAge New York, serving on its Operations Committee for nearly two decades. "I grew up serving seniors, helping my father in many different capacities and it has become my lifelong passion," said Garrett. "I am honored to be appointed by the Board and to further advocate for our members here at Peconic Landing and seniors across the state." LeadingAge New York advocates for more than 600 organizations that employ some 150,000 professionals and serve more than 500,000 New Yorkers annually, according to the organization's website There are currently 12 CCRCs operating within the state.
