Rachel Krol joins Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinic and Sara Budish is promoted

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - July 27, 2016 - PRLog -- The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Krol '12 to the position Clinical Instructor at HNMCP and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School.

Rachel will serve as Lecturer on Law in the school's flagship "Negotiation Workshop" class. She will also serve as Clinical Instructor with HNMCP, where her main work will focus on supervising current and recruiting new clinical projects. Rachel was herself a clinic student in HNMCP during her time at Harvard Law School and helped manage two projects, one with the National Institutes of Health and a second at Seeds of Peace.

Before joining HNMCP, Rachel taught negotiation at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and led interactive negotiation and leadership workshops designed specifically for young women through her company, Connect More Consulting.

"The lessons I learned as a student in HNMCP made me be a better advocate for my clients, a better team member for my colleagues, and a better partner in my personal life. I am thrilled to return as a Clinical Instructor to help further this learning for others, both in the HLS community and beyond in our client organizations."

Rachel has also served as a teaching team member for executive education seminars offered by the Harvard Negotiation Institute and courses at Penn Law School and Vienna University of Economics and Business. In addition, Rachel has worked on negotiation and conflict resolution projects with nonprofit, educational, and governmental institutions including Seeds of Peace, GenHERation, the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at SCH Academy, and the National Institutes of Health. She practiced law with the firms Drinker, Biddle & Reath LLP and Ahmad Zaffarese LLC in Philadelphia, in the areas of finance, securities, and civil litigation.

Rachel received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A. from Columbia University. Prior to attending law school, she taught at the International Montessori School of Prague in the Czech Republic.

Since that time, Rachel has built an impressive career as a lawyer, independent negotiation consultant and business owner, and adjunct faculty member in Wharton's undergraduate curriculum. I feel fortunate to have persuaded Rachel to return to HNMCP where I know she will continue to bring her hard work, creativity, and empathy to the work she does and to the students, faculty, staff, and clients with whom she will interact in our community."

Effective July 1, 2016, Sara del Nido Budish begins her appointment to the role of Lecture on Law for the school's flagship "Negotiation Workshop" and Clinical Instructor at the Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program. Sara's main work will focus on supervising clinical students and recruiting new clinical projects.

Sara served as the HNMCP Clinical Fellow from 2014–2016 before being hired as the newest member of the HNMCP Clinical Instruction team. During her tenure as Clinical Fellow, Sara supervised several ADR student groups and worked on many special projects with the Director, including HNMCP's new podcast, The Listening Room. She is co-author, with Prof. Bordone and Tobias Berkman, of "The Negotiation Within: the Impact of Internal Conflict Over Identity an Role on Across-the-Table-Negotiations," in the Journal of Dispute Resolution.

During her law school career, Sara was a student in HNMCP. She and her teammate created and delivered a series of customized trainings to a group of healthcare providers with a focus on communication and difficult conversations. Sara was deeply involved in the alternative dispute resolution community throughout law school, serving as Advanced Training Director for the Harvard Mediation Program; research assistant to Professor Robert Bordone; and Online Executive Editor for the Harvard Negotiation Law Review. Prior to law school, she was a Research Associate in the Negotiation, Organizations & Markets Unit at Harvard Business School, where she wrote case studies and helped design and build a curriculum around negotiation and incentive systems in the context of organizational behavior and management.

Sara was a summer associate at Bingham McCutchen LLP and has interned with the Hon. Denise Jefferson Casper in the U.S. District Court, D. Mass., and at the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development in their Office of Litigation. She has published original course materials through Harvard Business School Publishing and Harvard Law School Case Studies. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Dartmouth College.

The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program (www.law.harvard.edu/negotiation) is the nation's first legal clinic focusing on dispute systems design and conflict management. HNMCP was founded in 2006 by Professor Robert Bordone to take Harvard Law School students from theory to practice in the fields of negotiation, dispute resolution, and conflict management.

HNMCP trains a new generation of lawyers with the skills—in negotiation, mediation, facilitated dialogue, stakeholder assessment, dispute systems evaluation and design, conflict analysis, and curriculum development—necessary to help their clients manage their negotiations and disputes efficiently and creatively.
