SAN FRANCISCO - July 27, 2016 - PRLog -- Award-winning "literary genre" novelist Terry Persun has signed on with Fuse Literary, to delve the depths of what it means to be a hybrid author in today's multi-faceted publishing environment.

Persun, the author of books ranging from literary fiction to poetry to science fiction, fantasy, and suspense novels, will team up with Fuse Literary founder Laurie McLean to better define his writing persona, get his backlist out there, and sell future books to an excited audience.

"Terry writes everything from fantasy and science fiction to thrillers and poetry, but the common thread among them all is a philosophy that centers around questioning the status quo, whether political, spiritual, or cultural," McLean said.

One of the strengths of Fuse Literary is that it looks at storytelling as a core, then branches out as it makes sense for each client, to create a comprehensive career plan with many different publishing formats as well as media for expression. For Persun, the challenge was to craft a brand that encompassed everything he was interested in exploring in the vast and varied ways he wished to express himself. What emerged was the idea of "literary-genre fiction"— the merging of beautiful writing with the full-throttle plots and fast pacing of science fiction, fantasy, mysteries and thrillers.

"As easily as the words 'literary' and 'genre' fit together in my head, I still hear people separating the two modes of fiction writing: character-driven versus plot-driven or slow-paced versus fast-paced," Persun explained. "But shouldn't writers be concerned with both?"

Persun went on to explain that he is a voracious reader of science fiction and fantasy, nonfiction spiritual books, how-to manuals, science books, poetry anthologies, literary and commercial fiction, and much more. Why, then, can't he write all that as well?

"Others who, to me, appear to be doing the same thing I am include Justin Cronin (The Passage), Ben Bova (New Earth), Greg Bear (War Dogs), and let's not forget Cormac McCarthy (The Road)," Persun said.

"I find that most of the readers I know are eclectic readers just like me. And I've decided those are the people I want to write for, the people who are just as strange and explorative as I am. And I believe a lot of people read this way. We can't all be categorized into a few groups."

Persun's next work in progress is a science fiction novel about a sentient ship that creates cloned humans to seed terra-formed planets as a way to colonize space. You can bet it will be groundbreaking and thought provoking.
