Las Vegas Takes a New Leap in Harvesting energy

CAMDEN, U.K. - July 24, 2016 - PRLog -- It may sound like something from a science fiction movie of man having the ability to create energy from his own footsteps, however in the United States, this phenomenon is becoming a reality. American movie directors have created the image of what our futures can look like within the next few decades. Whether its pessimistic images of the future such as the Terminator or optimistic films such as my child hood classic "Back to the Future," we all have a view of what the future may look like. Hover boards, flying cars may seem like a far fetched dream, but ways of harvesting energy is not a far distance thought, one might think. In Las Vegas, the Engoplanet project is inching one step closer to creating a sustainable world with its off-the-grid solution, powered by combining kinetic and solar energy. Kinetic energy is harvested from pedestrians' footsteps via kinetic energy pads.

When someone steps over a kinetic pad, energy is created and goes directly to the battery.  However, the start up tech also provides a service to the millions of people that visit Sin-City. As well as working as harvesting energy, the harvesting spots also provide Wi-Fi and portable charge points for people that may need to top up their phone with energy. Petar Mirovic, CEO of EngoPlanet, states, "Currently, street lights in the world release more than 100 million tons of CO2 per year. Our generation has the moral responsibility to transform our energy system. EngoPlanet Street Light will revolutionize the way we illuminate streets. It will reduce CO2 emission, lower maintenance bill and with many new features, it will make cities smarter."  A study by MIT found that the average healthy human could generate over 255 kilowatts per hour per year just running on a Treadmill. That accounts to 10 calories per minute, which can be converting into electricity and power 7 light bulbs. Now I'm not suggesting that everyone runs on treadmills, however with the population increasing to 9 Billion people by the year 2050, are energy demands are only going to increase. But what better way to use a echo-friendly and cheaper alternative in harvesting energy. Now that Engoplanet project has started a new wave of harvesting energy, other companies around the world are following suit. In the United Kingdom the Pavegen project has also began working on solar panel harvesting plates. Recently working what it calls micro-generation the small start up successfully installed off the grid solar solutions during the 2012 Olympics at busy commute stations.  With the test run being successful Pavegen has now expanded projects by creating football pitches that harvest kinetic energy in emerging markets such as Brazil. With his new sense of optimism, one can say that it is a period of extreme innovation for the world of sustainability and hopefully the beginning of an enormous "STEP" for mind kind.
