AUSTIN, Texas - July 22, 2016 - PRLog -- THE TROLLS are coming! – More specifically, they're coming to DVD, Blu-ray, and Video-On-Demand on October 11, 2016.

The new feature length comedy film from writer/director Lex Lybrand, THE TROLLS tells the story of an Austin start-up that loses everything to a patent troll. What's a patent troll?

Well, they're a lot like mosquito's, according to Pat Dean's character, "Gum" in the film: "Their entire business model is acquiring patents and then finding people trying to make & sell things, and sue them. They eat technicalities for breakfast and sh** out profit," he explains to the gang in an early scene in the film

THE TROLLS is written and directed by Austin filmmaker, Lex Lybrand (SUMMER LEAGUE, MEET ME THERE) and has played at film festivals across the country this summer. The stars of the film, Rob Gagnon, Lisa Friedrich, Pat Dean, and Katie Pengra also contributed to the screenplay. Gagnon won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of "Roman" at the Innovative Film Festival last month. Gagnon's character is the one responsible for coming up with the idea that makes the film possible – It's him who decides they should troll the trolls.

"Troll the trolls?"
The down & out tech start-up decides to fight back by obtaining a patent for being a patent troll. This plan allows them to, you guessed it, troll the trolls. Could this happen in real life? "No," Lybrand said bluntly in a post-screening Q&A at the film's Austin premiere, "...But it's not really that far off from something that could actually happen. I mean, some of the most absurd stuff in our film is the stuff that really does happen. That's the crazy part. Most of this is true. Plus it makes for great drama, and I get to use a Ric Flar line to decribe the film – 'To beat the trolls, you gotta be the trolls."

The film raised just over $4,000 through the crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo, which was well short of the $20,000. Serendipitously, local patent attorney – Michael Reed of Cesari & Reed, LLP – came across the project a few hours after it had ended. Reed and Cesari reached out to Lybrand and offered to help fill the budget gap. The rest, as they say, is history.

THE TROLLS was acquired by BrinkVision, a distribution company that releases DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD content in North America. The film will be available for pre-order soon at BrinkVision.com as well as most popular outlets (Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Target, Google Play, Amazon, Hulu, VUDU, among others).

Advance copies of the film can be made available for the reviewing press by request.
