FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - July 21, 2016 - PRLog -- Advanced Roofing Inc. (ARI), the top commercial roofing contractor in Florida, was recognized with the first-place Sustainability Award for its work building the massive 2.25-megawatt solar carport for Lockheed Martin's Clearwater campus at the 2016 Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) S.T.A.R. awards program. This was the  third year in a row the company took home honors in this category. ARI also received the second-place Low-Slope Award for its re-roofing of the Publix Super Markets Produce Warehouse in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The Sustainability Award for the Lockheed Martin Clearwater Operation's solar carport was based on the magnitude of the project, which serves as the primary power source for daytime operations for the electronics manufacturing facility. The carport is expected to produce 3.33 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, resulting in an anticipated 60 percent savings. The 2.25-megawatt, 534-car solar array carport is the largest privately owned solar system in Florida. Nearly everyone who visits Lockheed Martin has to drive under the canopies, so they serve as the first introduction to the company and to solar array. Advanced Green Technologies, a sister company of ARI, designed and led construction for the project.

The unique challenges of replacing the roof of a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week trucking facility and warehouse that supplies food and produce to South Florida's tri-county area without disrupting operations was recognized with FRSA's Low Slope honor. The Publix Super Markets Produce Warehouse project required ARI to utilize many of its in-house divisions to coordinate deliveries of materials and trash removal around the trucking yard's 24-hour operations. ARI's Crane Division was brought in to help load materials and remove trash from the roof while the Lightning Protection Division removed the existing lightning protection system as well as re-installed and  certified the system following the roof replacement.

Another challenge ARI overcame during the removal process was disassembling the existing lightning protection system that was connected to everything on the roof, from the HVAC units to the perimeter copings, and throughout the general roofing membrane.

"ARI is honored to be recognized once again by our peers for the hard work that goes into making sure each of our projects exceeds expectations," said Advanced Roofing President and CEO Rob Kornahrens. "Publix Super Markets and Lockheed Martin are two of the largest companies in Florida, so its was important that ARI can provide the best roofing and solar systems available to maximize productivity and revenues for both companies while keeping employees safe throughout the process."
