OAKVILLE, Ontario - July 15, 2016 - PRLog -- As golfing season gets into full swing, avid playersin Ontario's Halton region bring their golf game to the next level, injury free, with professional support from Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)-certified physiotherapist Robin Valadares and his team.

Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic's physiotherapist Robin Valadares, a keen golfer himself, recently attended a golf specific rehabilitation program taught by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), the world's leader in golf fitness, development and performance, with most of the top golfers in the world being advised and treated by TPI-certified experts. This certification program includes TPI's 16-step physical screening approach which assesses how the body moves, analyzing its different patterns and how they can affect a player's golf swing and potentially lead to injuries. Once specific limitations and faulty movement patterns are identified, the athlete can work towards enhancing or eliminating that physical limitation in order to maximize their game and prevent injury.  The initial assessment involves addressing a detailed history of current and previous injuries, one's golf performance goals, and also completion of a physical assessment in order to identify any areas of weakness or potential limitations. Based on the results, a plan is put in place addressing any areas that need improvement, which is usually achieved through physiotherapy and golf specific exercises.

"As a physiotherapist, I look for areas where the body may be at risk of injury, and in the cases where injury has already occurred, I work with players to overcome that," says Robin Valadares (https://www.sheddonphysio.com/robin-valadares). "Specialists like me and my colleagues –Jason Kobrick and Erin Shapcott–, who have completed golf specific rehabilitation courses, are part of the team with the fitness coach and, most importantly, the golf professional. We do not teach swing mechanics, but help foster a more apt body to support it."

Robin Valadares is passionate about sports –golf in particular–, credentialed with Sports Physiotherapy of Canada, currently pursuing his Sports Diploma. A graduate of Physiotherapy, Robin Valadares received his Master's at McMaster University in 2012 after obtaining a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Queen's University, where he was the varsity Basketball trainer, helping athletes with their off- and on-the-court training and rehab. He has a special interest in manual therapy; he is currently completing his Level III therapy levels. His therapy is founded on manual therapy, home exercises, education and acupuncture. During his spare time Robin is an on-field physiotherapist for the Goan Soccer League in Toronto, and also a faithful and ever hopefully fan of the Maple Leafs.
