Local YMCA Branches Collecting Food for Manna This Summer
YMCA branches in the Conejo and Simi valleys are collecting donated food to give to Manna, the Conejo Valley food bank., this summer
Nonperishable food is being collected on Fridays throughout the summer. Children who attend YMCA summer camps are particularly encouraged to bring food items each Friday. "The summer food drive not only helps families who are food insecure, but also teaches kids who are more fortunate that even at a young age, they can make a difference,"
While Manna is always in need of the basics (canned foods, peanut butter, tuna, low sugar cereals), it could also use kid-friendly foods (fruit rolls, raisins, graham crackers, applesauce, fruit cups, pretzels and peanut-free granola bars).
Food drop off locations are at the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark, Thousand Oaks), Miller Family YMCA (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park), Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley) and Triunfo YMCA (Willow Elementary School, 29026 Laro Dr, Agoura Hills). Drop off hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each Friday. Collections will continue through August 19. http://www.sevymca.org/
