CareerLaunch Internship Celebration Recognizes 80+ Denver Companies

Summer Internship Program Introduces Students to STEM Industries

DENVER - July 11, 2016 - PRLog -- This summer, more than 200 Denver Public Schools students are interning in cutting-edge industries across the city and county of Denver in the first-ever CareerLaunch internship program.  Students are performing real tasks in hospitals, advanced manufacturing facilities, engineering firms, banks, tech start-ups, and more.  About 80 companies and organizations are hosting interns, including:  QEP Resources, Xcel Energy, Pinnacol Assurance, NOAA, the U.S. Mint, Swiftpage, City and County of Denver Technology Services, and Denver Health.

CareerLaunch Internship Celebration:

We'll be wrapping up the program with the CareerLaunch Internship Celebration on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 3pm-5pm at Sculpture Park, located near the Denver Performing Arts Center.  Meet students, employers, and parents as we celebrate with food, internship project displays, and presentations.  Student displays will run from 3pm-3:30pm.  Governor Hickenlooper has recognized the importance of the CareerLaunch program and has proclaimed July 22nd as Internship Day across the state of Colorado.

About Our Interns:

Interns are incoming juniors and seniors who have been taking DPS CareerConnect classes in STEM industries.  Students bring industry knowledge and are able to contribute to a company's business operations.  NOAA interns Maggie and Ellie are building a research device that will be mounted on the outside of an airplane and will monitor aerosols in the atmosphere.  At Home Advisor, interns Nicole and Ricardo are coding customized error messages for website users.  At Ellab, intern Herman has been quality testing high-tech temperature gauges.  These are just a few stories among our 200+ interns.

Why CareerLaunch is Important:

CareerLaunch internships provide students with the opportunities to explore careers and to realize the practical application of subjects that they have been studying in high school.  Host companies are helping aspiring young professionals in their field become fully immersed in their industry, broadening students' horizons and building their college and career portfolios.

About DPS CareerConnect:

Denver Public Schools CareerConnect offers 6,000+ Denver students with relevant, career-focused classes and connects them with 160+ partner companies and colleges for hands-on workplace experiences and mentoring.  Students can make lasting connections with professionals and see how core subjects such as math and writing are used in cutting-edge industries.  Through experiential learning initiatives like CareerX Industry Exploration Events, CareerCoach mentoring, or the CareerLaunch internship program, students are prepared for a wide variety of careers in Colorado's highest-opportunity industries.
