"Ophelia Did Not Drown": an experimental movie in the Fourth centenary of William Shakespeare

ROMA, Italy - July 11, 2016 - PRLog -- "Ophelia Did Not Drown": an experimental movie about Ophelia in the Fourth centenary of the death of William Shakespeare

The film made by Francesca Fini in association with Istituto Luce Cinecittà was officially presented in March of 2016 at the VIDEOFORMES International Digital Arts Festival, an event deeply concerned with new digital languages in Clermont-Ferrand (F),  now in its 31^st edition, and simultaneously in New York, at the Watermill Center, the laboratory for performing arts headed by Bob Wilson.

"Ophelia Did Not Drown" is an experimental film that surrealistically reinterprets Shakespeare's drama from the point of view of young Ophelia. The film was produced in association with the Institute Luce Cinecittà and integrates seemingly irreconcilable languages​: the historical, anthropological and sociological repertoire of Luce and original performances produced by the artist for this project.

Between provocative body-art and body-manipulation scenes, visually engaging ideas and mesmerizing scenarios and costumes, disturbing living installations and the celebration of feminine beauty and strenght.At the center of it all is an Ophelia who is different from the one handed down by the literary tradition: not a shy and fragile teenager, but many women of different colors, features and ages. A modern and bittersweet Ophelia. An Ophelia who instead of being lost in the woods of Denmark, lives among the sharp an dry Lazio landscapes: from evocative industrial Rome Gazometro to the Scrap Center in Cisterna di Latina, from the arid limestone caves of  Villa Riano to the marvelous family Perugini Villa Futuristica in Fregene, passing through a crazy sightseeing journey on a bus tour of the capital. An Ophelia who in the end does not drown, renouncing her destiny as a romantic heroine to become a "normal person".

The film premiered at the Clermont-Ferrand VIDEOFORMES International Digital Arts Festival, in its 31^st edition, in the form of a video installation that has been exhibited at La Tolerie, the festinal venue,  from March 18th to April 2nd 2016.

VIDEOFORMES is one of the oldest and most prestigious European festivals dedicated to digital arts. Active since 1986, it is considered a sort of permanent observatory on the most innovative and courageous trends in the field of experimental film and in new media.

On March 25th the film has been shown at the Watermill Center, a laboratory for performing arts headed by Bob Wilson in New York. The screening of the film was part of the final event of the project "La Masca", a multimedia installation that Francesca Fini produce during her artist residency at the Watermill Center from February 28th to March 28th, 2016.

The film will now be presented in Sicily, in the Arab neighborhood of Caltanissetta, for the Festival Extraction / Abstraction, from 22-24 july 2016 .
