As should be customary for all webmasters with content driven, and data led websites, is a regular overhaul to make sure information is up to date, and more importantly that all links and images work as they should, to give the website visitor the best experience for their time investment. Biz-find UK is no different.
"We were quite heavily penalized for changing our theme" Alan Johnston owner of both Netmedia-Asia, their new Laos based company name and the Biz-find sites.
"When you start off with Word Press and all their neat plug-ins for your site, it is fantastic for small companies as they have so many great free things to add to your site, however if you are in it for the long term, your theme can lag behind technology advances, so you need to keep upgrading the theme and that is when you run the risk of losing all your customisations when you upgrade the theme.
This is what happened to our flagship business Directory and Sales leads site. We upgraded our UK site http://biz-find.co.uk and continued working on our newer directories, the upgrade lost loads of information like phone numbers and logos to which we recently had to go through, one by one, to make sure we were within the boundaries of the 'no evil' policy of Search engines and provide comprehensive information on companies so that the website visitor found the information they needed and it is easy to contact the listed companies.
Back in 2014 prior to the upgrade, we as a startup business had a respectable ranking on Search engines, however after the theme upgrade of mid-2014, we were virtually kicked off Google for our main key Phrase 'UK Business Directory', this one site in our range still receives over 5,000 visitors each month for other key phrases associated to the listings themselves, but it was quite a shock to the business.
Then after a painstaking process of checking every single one of our 2,000 user added listings which took 333 hours manual work to do, we have found our rank has started to climb back. We are very pleased to say.
We admit we found a lot of broken links on the site, and we simply deleted these listings, we found the bigger Business Directories for UK still show these listings even though their website is down and some businesses have closed down completely, but for us it was not good enough for our visitors. Most Images were broken so we had to go find their logos and re-add them on behalf of our members.
Some people may say 2,000 listings is not a lot, yet we believe our categories go deeper than any other bigger Business directory, and people only need 2 or 3 companies per category to make a decision, especially if the listings are very category specific. Added to this; none of our listings are broken now, and we have plans for a lot more fuller information this year like SIC codes, number of employees, more social media links and financial information.
On top of all this free information, we offer a unique Sales leads generation system. We call our members each day and offer them extra marketing services in return for them to tell us what they are buying, we then publishing these buying leads on the site for sellers to purchase.
We as Sales reps, before the internet, imagined a world where Sales people didn't have to do the things we really don't like too much, like cold calling and Business networking, and many loathe social media and Blogging now also.
We wanted an environment where we as reps, could just find and pay for sales leads, call up the leads, make an appointment, go be our charming selves and close deals. This is a Sales reps dream world where you could spend more time doing the stuff you are actually trained for and enjoy the most and make more money at it." The Director told us.
