Giving Grows Your Business, Your Team and Your Customers

Small businesses can be a financial struggle at times for their owners but one small business owner believes that giving their business funds away has been a huge part of their success and seen it greatly impact their staff and customers.

CHICAGO - July 25, 2016 - PRLog -- From the start of their small promotional products business, Russell Johansen, the owner of MyPaperCups and the Banner Pens businesses, believes 'giving' has been a keen tenant of the success they've been achieving.  'Giving as your business grows can have a huge impact upon hundreds or thousands of people in need, provide social fulfilment for your team and delight your customers.'  In the last financial year, their small businesses donated over $10,000 to The Fred Hollows Foundation.

The MyPaperCups and Banner Pens donates $25 every time a new sale was made.  When donating to The Fred Hollows Foundation, the $25 represented the cost of curing a patient from blindness caused by diseases like cataracts and trachoma in countries like, Nepal, Cambodia, Rwanda and Bangladesh.

Russell commented that "Giving is not seen as cost to our business but an investment in our team – it's a privilege and something our team are very proud to be able to contribute to and see the amazing changes made in people's lives made around the world as a result of the work that our team does."  Having the business donate based on the level of success we achieve on a daily basis, rather than how much money was 'left over' at the end of the month has provided the business and their team with some huge advantages that other businesses might be able to benefit from as well.

The MyPaperCups and Banner Pens team members each year get to be involved in something bigger than just what happens in their day-to-day business and get to contribute to some amazing charity work that directly impacts the day-to-day lives of thousands of people in need around the world.  "Our staff take a great deal of pride in the fact that their hard work not only benefits the business but also many, many others in need."  The team is kept up to date with the size of the donations that are being made each month and the work that their efforts are helping support.

Each year the staff at MyPaperCups and Banner Pens gets their staff to pick a new charity to support – one that they find and believe the donations will have a great impact upon.  This coming year they have selected Hands Across The Water – a charity supporting the housing and education of orphans living in Thailand.

The business also includes their customers in the impact that their purchase has upon the chosen charity and the people that they support.  "We send out thank you letters to our customers including material printed by the charity letting them know of the stories of what the funds are achieving and how their purchase is directly affecting them."  Customers have also sent back responses letting the business know that they value dealing with businesses that look for areas to impact socially.

There are massive opportunities around the world where donations to charities will make a big difference and if a small promotional products business has found a way to use it to motivate their staff and delight their customers – maybe others can too.
