ATLANTA - July 6, 2016 - PRLog -- Composed of Generation X and millennial team members, mRELEVANCE recently studied the communication preferences of the latter. The agency's findings may or may not come as a surprise: the millennial generation is always on their phones.

"Yet, they never answer their phones," explained Carol Morgan, a Gen Xer and mRELEVANCE managing partner. "They just text!"

According to OpenMarket, 75 percent of millennials opt for texting over talking. Texts are "more convenient", less disruptive and on their own schedule. Furthermore, Mobile Marketing Engine reports that 90 percent of all text messages that millennials receive are read within three minutes.

There are plenty of reasons why millennials avoid answering phone calls. Inc. explains that millennials avoid calls because they assume that what should be a five-minute phone call will be anything but, in addition to the fact that phone calls presume that the person you are calling should drop everything to answer. Milliennials prefer to text and follow that with a call if the person is available or they feel it is appropriate. They see this as a smarter, more effective way to communicate that is less distracting to the work place and their personal lives.

Of course in a work environment, it is often necessary to email and that is absolutely fine. Millennials prefer emails to phone calls, too. Keeping with the current trends, mRELEVANCE advises companies to adopt text and email communications for appointments, payments, deliveries and more.

It is important to market to this generation because, according to Pew Research Center, they are "connected, open to change and confident." The teens and 20-somethings who are entering adulthood at the start of the new millennium are a generation that has effortlessly kept up with the technological advances of the last 20 years, while Generation X and Baby Boomers trail behind or scramble to learn.

So, if communicating with a millennial or attempting to communication with them, text them, do not call. For more information, visit www.MarketingRelevance.com.
