KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - July 10, 2016 - PRLog -- Mom2Mom KMC is pleased to once again host the Healthy Children's Center for Breastfeeding's Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) training program at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center on October 17-21, 2016. The Certified Lactation Counselor┬«, (CLC) certification is the premier National Certification in Lactation Management for the United States.  CLC certification holders have received training and competency verification in breastfeeding support and human lactation.  The knowledge and attitudes learned in this course are essential to helping women meet their breastfeeding goals.

From the Surgeon General's Call to Action: "One of the most highly effective preventive measures a mother can take to protect the health of her infant and herself is to breastfeed. However, in the U.S., while 75 percent of mothers start out breastfeeding, only 13 percent of babies are exclusively breastfed at the end of six months."

Anyone interested in helping breastfeeding mothers and babies can take the course; there are no pre-requisites.  This course is intended for people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.  It will enable healthcare providers and non-medical professionals with practical skills to make breastfeeding a success.  This CLC course will also provide insight into patients' and clients' breastfeeding issues, with a strong focus on counseling skills.

CLCs help to improve breastfeeding rates by assisting mothers and babies in overcoming common obstacles.  Breastfeeding has been proven to provide lifelong benefits for mother and baby.  Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continuing on as long as mother and baby choose.  In military communities, mothers are often separated from their partners, family, and others who would typically provide the close support that is key to breastfeeding success.  CLCs help bridge this gap between mothers and skilled, continuously available breastfeeding education and support in their local communities.  Mom2Mom KMC maintains a database of community CLCs and lactation specialists for local moms to turn to when they need help.

Registration is open and class size is limited! Regular tuition is $625, Early Bird Tuition and Group Discount Tuition is $575.  An additional exam fee ($120) and textbook are also required.  This course is approved for use with MyCAA funding for eligible military spouses.  For more information or to register, please visit: or
