BrandSecurity announced research data of the current counterfeit level in Runet

MOSCOW, Russian Federation - July 4, 2016 - PRLog -- Analysis was applied to the resources listed in the top 20 search results on Yandex and Google. Communities, groups and accounts on social networks such as VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Facebook, Twitter and Instargam were also analyzed as well as proposals (offers) of CPA-networks (affiliate programs with pay-per-action function).

The results have shown that in 75% of all cases when a user is trying to find an online store, selling the above mentioned brands, he or she gets into the online shop offering fake goods. At the same time, for some brands, when requesting "Brand (exact name) fake goods" absolutely all online stores of the top 20 offer counterfeit products.

For example, for the brand Gucci on the top 5 websites BrandSecurity experts identified 3615 references to the brand products with the total cost of more than 40 million roubles.

Further study of the social network VKontakte for the presence of communities that sell counterfeit products of famous brands has shown that the total number of members of the first ten (largest) groups, offering to buy such brands as Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Dior, is more than 140 000 people, while the number of subscribers in one community varies from 10,000 to 30,000.

Also, attention was paid to the spread of a relatively new type of goods spread via the Internet - CPA-partner networks. It was found that through these networks they mostly sell low-quality products made in China. Also, you can often find the so-called "offers" for well-known world brands of watches, handbags, and electronics. This segment attracts a large number of webmasters with regular payments for each of the units sold, so on the Internet there are many types of one-page websites selling goods including counterfeit products.

"Our investigation has shown that within the Russian Internet segment there are online stores, offering counterfeit goods, which often fully occupy the first position in search results, and in social networks. This is due to several factors: the lack of actions of right holders to protect their own intellectual property rights and often complete absence of official channels for online market. Sellers of counterfeit products actively carry out their activities on the Internet for the past 6-7 years and therefore communities on social networks, online stores, which are actively promoted at the expense of content advertising, use such sales channels such as Instagram, CPA-network, and others.  Dropshipping scheme is also often used (products are delivered directly to the end customer from the manufacturer's warehouse in China). Those who want to buy original products and not become a victim of fraud need to be very careful when choosing an online store. Many stores have a modern design, easy to use interface, payment methods, and even the price of goods is often overstated especially to make it difficult to distinguish the fake products"- says Ruslan Krivulin, CEO in BrandSecurity.
