Real Food Rising farm hosts Community Lunch Series in July

SALT LAKE CITY - June 28, 2016 - PRLog -- The Real Food Rising farm will once again host their annual Community Lunch Series this summer, with proceeds benefitting the farm and youth development programs. Lunches will be held July 13^th, 20^th, 27^th from 12-1pm at the Real Food Rising farm, and the community is invited to take part.

The event series provides youth crew members in Real Food Rising's Summer Youth Program the opportunity to team up with a variety of local chefs. Each week, the crew and chef will prepare and share a seasonal meal featuring fresh, organic, local produce from the farm. After a morning developing cooking skills and learning new recipes, youth serve the meals to community members and share stories about their experiences working in this program.

Krystal Rogers-Nelson, Real Food Rising's Program Coordinator, says "The community lunches are so much fun; it's a great opportunity for community members to see the farm, taste the amazing food that we're growing, and learn about local, sustainable agriculture. It brings together people from all different walks of life to celebrate our youth, our food, and our program."

This year's chefs are:

·         Wednesday, July 13^th: Utah Community Action

·         Wednesday, July 20^th: Urban Pioneer Foods

·         Wednesday, July 27^th: International Rescue Committee's SPICE Kitchen Incubator

Lillian, a youth crew worker from our '15 program, said "My experience with Real food Rising has impacted my life by giving me the experience of spending my time working with the earth and friends. We have built something beautiful together."
