FORT WORTH, Texas - June 27, 2016 - PRLog -- The Vintage Flying Museum is celebrating a restoration milestone with an Open House on Saturday, July 9.  Beginning at approximately 9:00 AM, Special Kay, the world's only flying A-26A/B-26K Counter-Invader, will start her engines for veterans and guests after a six-year restoration effort.

Special Kay is a derivative of the venerable Douglas A-26 Invader, which served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam; and is the only combat aircraft to achieve this distinction.  The engine start commemorates Kay's 71st birthday and the 50th Anniversary of the arrival of the A-26 aircraft in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand where they flew classified missions over Laos.

"We're so pleased to celebrate such an important milestone in the restoration of this very rare aircraft," said Charlyn "Chuckie" Hospers, Director of the Vintage Flying Museum.  "We hope everyone will come out to see Special Kay and the many other aircraft on display or in restoration in the museum."

Special Kay will be joined by a Vietnam era Cessna O-2 Forward Air Controller aircraft.  Veterans of the 603rd Air Commando Squadron and 609th Special Operations Squadron will also be on hand to celebrate this restoration milestone - including several pilots who actually flew Special Kay.

Visitors can enjoy free admission to the museum - open from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM the day of the Open House.  Lunch with a soft drink is available for $5.  The Commemorative Air Force Invader Squadron's A-26B and Greatest Generation Aircraft's DC-3 will offer tours and rides for sale.  Throughout the day, the museum will host speakers who will highlight the history of several aircraft in the collection.
