AVP San Francisco Semifinals Set As Both Men's, Women's 1, 2 Seeds Grab Winner's Bracket Spots

SAN FRANCISCO - June 25, 2016 - PRLog -- The Rio Olympic-bound duo of April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings extended their AVP match win streak to 54 and all-time AVP match record to 62-1 as they advanced to the semifinals along with the other top two men's and women's seeds at the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball San Francisco Open on Saturday at The Embarcadero Pier 30/32.

It didn't come easy for the #1 women's team, however, as their stretch of 66 consecutive set wins was snapped by upstart qualifiers Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes in the quarters, the Olympians finally prevailing in a tight 17-21, 21-18, 17-15 contest. Joining the Olympians as the other undefeated women's team in tomorrow's semis is Lane Carico/Summer Ross who reached their seventh semifinal in as many tournaments together by topping the third seeded tandem of Kim DiCello and Kendra VanZwieten 21-14, 21-19. Fighting their ways back into the winner's bracket for a chance to play in Sunday's finals are Emily Day/Brittany Hochevar and Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes.

The men's top seeded team Jake Gibb/Casey Patterson earned their Sunday semifinal appearance edging out Ty Loomis/Marty Lorenz in a heated 21-19, 19-21, 15-10 3-set match. Brothers and #2 seeds Taylor/Trevor Crabb also secured their spot in tomorrow's semifinals topping Billy Allen/Theo Brunner 21-15, 21-19. The other two semifinal spots on the men's side were secured by John Mayer/Stafford Slick and Ty Loomis/Marty Lorenz who each battled their way back into the winner's bracket through hard fought battles all day in the contender's bracket.

Sunday's play begins at 9:30 a.m., with live NBC television coverage from noon-1:30 p.m. PT. Fans can follow live video coverage of the rest of Sunday's action at www.avp.com.
