Sacred Heart High School freshman Ryan Leonard drafted in 5th round of Quebec Major Junior Hockey

KINGSTON, Mass. - June 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Sacred Heart High School (www.sacredheartkingston.com), a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, is proud to announce that high school freshman Ryan Leonard of Duxbury was drafted in the 5^th round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, considered the top Junior League internationally.

Leonard, a defenseman and member of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), was chosen by the Drummondville Voltiguers, one of a number of teams that comprise the League. Founded in 1969, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagueis one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues that constitute the Canadian Hockey League.

Being selected in the QMJHL draft is recognized as a prestigious honor; it is part of the Canadian Hockey League and considered a professional league.

"Ryan's consistent reliability as a defenseman on the ice has garnered him many accolades, but being drafted by "the Q" is at the top," said Tom MacDonald, Head Coach for the Sacred Heart High School Varsity Hockey team.  "It will be interesting to see where his skills take this remarkable young athlete."
