PORTLAND, Maine - June 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Attorney Sarah Churchill of law firm Nichols & Churchill, P.A. has accepted a position on the Maine Trial Lawyers Association's Board of Governors and was officially elected onto the Board as at March 18, 2016. Attorney Churchill is an accomplished personal injury litigator, criminal defender and trial attorney who has advocated for hundreds of clients across the state of Maine in both civil and criminal matters.

"Sarah is one of the most well-respected attorneys in our state. She's not only an outstanding criminal defense lawyer, but also a very accomplished civil litigator. Sarah is among the rare breed of attorneys possessing the skillset necessary to be considered a trial lawyer," says Churchill's partner, Attorney Matt Nichols.

The Maine Trial Lawyers Association is an active chapter of its parent, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America. As a regular member of MTLA since 2013, Churchill was delighted to get the call from MTLA President Christopher Largay asking her to serve on the Board of Governors.

"It's important to take stances from time to time on what effects proposed legislation will have on access to justice in our state," says Attorney Churchill. "This is an organization of legal advocates who are committed to ensuring that the people here have access to the court system, have a way to get their legal disputes resolved; and that people have a forum to seek remuneration when they are wronged."

In addition to providing the legal community with educational seminars, the MTLA also monitors legislation that would adversely affect citizens' rights to equity. Last year, they successfully advocated against proposed laws that would have prohibited mesothelioma victims from bringing cases against new owners of companies known to manufacture with asbestos.

Attorney Sarah Churchill says she looks forward to working on the Board of Governors. Her belief in making the legal system work for everyone aligns well with the work of MTLA. As she explains, "when someone is wronged or has a legal dispute, it is the judiciary's responsibility to provide an accessible, fair forum in which the people can be heard, and where they can seek an equitable remedy for their injuries as allowed for under the law."

Churchill represents a broad range of criminal defendants as well as civil plaintiffs. She has triumphed for many clients bringing discrimination and harassment cases against employers. She also gets the best outcomes for personal injury clients by being fully prepared to take a case all the way to trial. Churchill works on the MTLA's Board of Governors as a membership and good will ambassador.
