Victorian sterling silver covered trophy cup. Made by Robert Hennell in London in 1853.

Squat and shallow bowl on knopped stem mounted to double-dome foot. Chased and stylized flowers and incised and twisted lines alternating with garlands. Mounted to knop are alternating animal gargoyles and strapwork cartouches with geometric ornament, all with brackets mounted with flowers to knop base.

On trophy foot is engraved phrase: Singapore races 1892 autumn meeting / the Garrison Cup won by Mr Lavino's Werite.

Cover raised with chased flowers and scrolls on stippled ground with alternating c-scrolls and ogee arches. Cast equestrian group with colt nuzzling mother on mossy ground on raised and concave plinth.

Fine Victoriana with strong imperial associations. Hallmarked. Excellent condition with rich patina.

Dimensions: 17 1/2 x D 12 1/4 in. Heavy weight: 96.5 troy ounces.
