Dr. Jerry Bagel Receives 2016 Mercer County Medical Society Award

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. - June 22, 2016 - PRLog -- Dr. Jerry Bagel has been selected to receive the 2016 Mercer County Medical Society Award for Excellence in Research and Patient Advocacy. This award recognizes the important contribution Dr. Bagel has made to discovering new treatments for psoriasis and his advocacy for those affected by it.

At Windsor Dermatology Dr. Bagel has been involved in over 100 clinical trials to develop new treatments and has written over 50 articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Bagel has been a longtime member of the Medical Advisory Board for the National Psoriasis Foundation. He has been a voice for persons living with this condition and a dedicated fundraiser for the organization and for psoriasis research. The Psoriasis Treatment Center of Central New Jersey has been home to many clinical research studies and has been a leader in developing new treatments for psoriasis and other skin disorders.

Dr. Bagel feels particularly honored to receive this recognition from regional physicians who have seen firsthand the results from his patient care. In 2016, his important work has also been recognized by awards given by the American Academy of Dermatology and the National Psoriasis Foundation.

"As a boy growing up on a farm in East Windsor, New Jersey, I always dreamt of coming home as a doctor. I was a resident at Columbia Presbyterian when I was treating hospitalized patients for an entire month with crude coal tar applied to their skin for 3 hours followed by soaking in a tar bath and then ultraviolet lights. Every year those same patients came back for treatment. I saw patients in despair, depressed, and with a loss of self-esteem. I knew there had to be a better way. 31 years ago I began my practice with the intention of psoriasis treatment being the cornerstone for patients to come and receive treatment. With the help of many, research has developed medications that have significantly improved psoriatic lives. I am truly thankful dreams do come true."
