Follow on Google News | TAKE ME HOME L.A. Opens Renovated Downtown Landmark In Fashion DistrictCelebrate the grand opening of the historic Maxfield Building with an evening of Los Angeles based art, design, and performance
By: Capital Foresight "The lofts will act as a 'home' to a dynamic range of temporary tenants," says Ari Simon of Get Down Town, who curated the event. "A metaphor for the diversity of Los Angeles' own creativity, some spaces will act as galleries, some as pop-up shops, some as immersive installations and some as performance spaces." The grand opening is happening in tandem with Dwell on Design, the largest design event in the United States, taking place from June 24-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In addition, TAKE ME HOME L.A. celebrates LA Design Month, which will focus its attention on the creativity of downtown all that weekend. Located at 819 S. Santee Street in the Fashion District, one of the most culturally unique, complex and dynamic neighborhoods in Los Angeles, The Maxfield Building is a piece of downtown history. Designed in elegant art deco style in 1924 by architect John M. Cooper, the restored high-rise originally opened as the home of Maxfield & Company, a wholesale textile and dry goods company. It is designated as a Historic Cultural Monument in the City of Los Angeles. Acquired in 2012 by Capital Foresight, LP, The Maxfield Building was a major adaptive reuse project in which commercial spaces were transformed into residential lofts. The building now boasts a new gray façade, restored original corridor doors and floor-to-ceiling windows with low E glazing. "With the help of Cannon Management, Lahmon Architects and Galvic Construction, we gutted the entire fourteen floors and engineered some major structural upgrades," said Debbie Welsch of Capital Foresight. "While adding new living space to this thriving neighborhood, we felt it was important to maintain and even highlight the historic elements of the building." The MaxLofts now consists of 96 live/work units, ranging from 571 to 1237 square feet and include high end finishes such as bathroom glass tile, vessel sinks, concrete floors, open ceiling, and gourmet style kitchens. The building also provides residents with top-of-the-line shared space, such as a rooftop spa and barbeque lounge area as well as a gym.
