DENVER - June 20, 2016 - PRLog -- The Environmental Protection Agency's newly-released design details of the Clean Energy Incentive Program (CEIP) highlight Energy Outreach Colorado's work to bring the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy to low-income communities.

As part of the EPA's proposed Clean Power Plan, the agency is giving states the option to adopt the CEIP to encourage early implementation of greenhouse emission reduction projects. Energy Outreach Colorado's case study describes its comprehensive programs to deliver energy assistance services to low-income energy consumers across Colorado. It is one of two case studies included as examples of a "demonstrated ability to achieve results through on-the-ground implementation," according to the CEIP.

In the months prior to the EPA announcing the national Clean Power Plan last August, Energy Outreach Colorado and the National Energy and Utilities Advocacy Coalition presented White House and EPA staff with information about why it was critical to include low-income energy efficiency programs for vulnerable households in the national rule-making process.

"We are honored that our work on behalf of low-income energy consumers in Colorado can provide support for other organizations to extend the benefits of energy efficiency and renewal energy across the country," said Skip Arnold, executive director at Energy Outreach Colorado. "We all benefit from cleaner air and efficient use of our valuable resources."

Through 2015, Energy Outreach Colorado's energy efficiency programs has saved low-income energy consumers 226,000 dekatherms of natural gas and 19.2 million kilowatt-hours, resulting in avoiding nearly 28,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
