Follow on Google News | NABCA Releases Control States Nine-Liter Spirits Sales for MayControl State results for nine-liter beverage sales for May 2016
By: NABCA Control state spirits shelf dollars were up 3.9% during May while trending at 5.3% during the past twelve months. Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wyoming reported monthly growth rates that exceeded their 12-month trends. Spirits shelf dollars have grown 4.9% year-to-date, the same value reported last May. Price/Mix for May is 1.9%, down from April's 2.2%. This value is the lowest reported since August, 2015. Irish Whiskey, with 1% share of the control states spirits market, was May's fastest growing category with 16.7% reported and a twelve month trend of 16.1%. Vodka, with 35% share, grew during the same periods at 1.3% and 2.4%. Brandy/Cognac (10.1%), Cordials (-0.6%), Domestic Whiskey (3.9%), Irish Whiskey (16.7%), and Rum (0.1%) grew at May rates that exceeded their twelve-month trends. Canadian Whiskey (0.2%), Cocktails (2.9%), Gin (-2.1%), Scotch (-1.2%), Tequila (6.7%), and Vodka (1.3%) grew at monthly rates lagging their twelve-month trends. May's nine-liter wine case sales growth rate was 6.0%. Pennsylvania (reporting 7.1% nine-liter case growth for wines), New Hampshire (1.5%), Utah (6.6%), Mississippi (8.5%), Montgomery County Maryland (0.2%), and Wyoming (15.1%) are the control states that are the sole wholesalers of wines and spirits within their geographical boundaries.
