Weatta says, "The Legacy Exists is a 501(c)3 non-profit scholarship fund that was created to exemplify the embodiment and humanitarianism of "Smokin' Joe Frazier". His generosity was evident in the many acts of kindness extended towards others. We expect to see these positive traits in our applicants. Our mission is to pay homage to and honor the legacy of the late, great Boxing Champion, Joe Frazier. Scholarships will be awarded for educational, recreational and social programs to AT Risk youth, 13-19 years of age. These applicants must reside in Philadelphia and the surrounding Counties". As recent as March 11, 2016 "The Legacy Exists" awarded several scholarships at their fabulous star-studded Cocktail Fundraiser. Eric Katz, Curator and Director of DePace Sports Library and Museum of Champions located in Collinswood, New Jersey, representing Dr. Nicholas L. DePace is also a part of the Joe Simon Welcoming Committee. Joe Simon and Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier were very good friends for many years. Joe Frazier wanted Joe Simon to teach him how to sing and Joe Frazier was going to teach Joe Simon how to box. Joe Frazier became a boxer and a singer. Joe Simon never became a boxer. Simon says, " My friend, Joe Frazier would always rent a limousine and he would ride from Philadelphia to my office in New York City to meet with me, during those meetings he would talk about his boxing career and his kids.
