Cushman & Wakefield Launches Update on Food Manufacturing in the Americas

NEW YORK - June 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Cushman & Wakefield's (http://www.cushmanwakefield.com/) Industrial Research team today announced the launch of a five-part update on food manufacturing in the Americas. The global commercial real estate services firm is taking a critical look at several significant components of this vital industry, which is a significant employer and a major user of industrial space.

The first installment of "Good Eats & More Treats: Food Manufacturing and the Changing American Table" provides an overview on the Cushman & Wakefield study. "Food and beverage manufacturers have witnessed profound change in the last decade," noted Jason Tolliver, head of Industrial Research, Americas. "Our study focuses on these shifts, as well as the resulting challenges and solutions."

Cushman & Wakefield will release four additional installments over four months, exploring:

• Food Safety and Regulation - Stringent regulations and evolving food preferences have pushed food manufacturers to prioritize consumer and environmental health.
• Plant Efficiency - Efficiency has become critical to long-term survival as producers pursue both traditional and new, faster-growing distribution channels.
• Cold Storage - Food systems, cold storage facilities and the transportation infrastructure for temperature-sensitive commodities has become more complex.
• The Young & The Old - Perhaps most transformative of all, changing consumption patterns of the young and the old have altered the very nature of food manufacturing.

"The economic impact and geographical diversity of food manufacturing is broad," Tolliver noted. "Changes to the food continuum impact employment, processing plant site location, distribution and ultimately what we put on our tables."

According to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the food manufacturing industry made up more than 1.5 million wage-and-salary jobs in the United States in 2015. In the period 2011-2015, 1,691 food processing projects were announced, of which 1,033 were expansions and 658 were new projects. "There has been a clear upward trend in both new and expansion projects, and growth is accelerating," Tolliver said. "In 2015 we witnessed the greatest number of food manufacturing project announcements in the past five years. We expect this trend to continue."
