Weather Analytics is the 2016 Venture Deal of the Year

Venture Deal of the Year to Weather Analytics at Corporate Growth Awards for $12.5 million Series A

MCLEAN, Va. - June 14, 2016 - PRLog -- Weather Analytics LLC was presented with the Corporate Growth Award for Venture Deal of the Year by ACG National Capital. Tokio Marine HCC, a leading worldwide specialty insurance company and one of Weather Analytics' largest customers, funded over $7m of the $12.5m+ Series A funding in September 2015, with a number of other investors, including In-Q-Tel, a private nonprofit venture firm serving the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and broader Intelligence Community, closing out the round. The HCC investment in Weather Analytics was identified by the 2016 Corporate Growth Awards Committee as the most successful and impactful deal executed in the greater Washington DC business community this year. The award was presented at a black tie gala on May 19, 2016.

"Our committee was delighted to receive more than 100 nominations from a wide variety of industry sectors, each of which told a story of impressive management and innovation," said Marisa Terrenzi, a partner with Holland & Knight and chair of the 2016 Corporate Growth Awards Committee. "The winners should be congratulated for representing the best of an extremely high-quality group who are contributing greatly to the vibrancy and growth of our region."

"On behalf of Weather Analytics, we are honored to have received the ACG Deal of the Year award. Our extraordinary growth has been exciting for the Company, and we are appreciative and proud to be recognized amongst fellow top-performing companies in the Washington DC area," said Chris Skarinka, President and Chief Operating Officer of Weather Analytics.

While Weather Analytics received interest from a number of venture funds, the lead investment from Tokio Marine HCC demonstrates Weather Analytics' traction in the insurance marketplace.

"We are delighted to invest alongside the Intelligence Community to help Weather Analytics build leading risk-assessment tools that serve the Insurance and Reinsurance sectors with capabilities also supporting national security," said Chris Williams, Tokio Marine HCC's Chief Executive Officer.

Bill Pardue, Weather Analytics' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, added, "The ACG Deal of the Year award highlights the confidence and strategic vision Weather Analytics shares with Tokio Marine HCC. We are using the investment to deepen our product penetration in our core markets of Insurance, intelligence and security."

Businesses keen on surviving the changing risk landscape - both by increasing their foothold in current markets and expanding into new territories - require scalable, accessible and intelligent weather-related solutions. One such Weather Analytics product whose development has been spurred by the equity infusion is Gauge, a risk analysis and portfolio management tool enabling users to evaluate the risk of hail, tornadoes, straight-line winds, heavy rainfall, winter storms and ice storms.
