Yannuzzi Group Announces Successful Demolition of Historic Dormitories at Blair Academy

BLAIRSTOWN, N.J. - July 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Yannuzzi Group, Inc. has a long and proud history in the State of New Jersey. Founded in 1927, Yannuzzi has performed many demolitions in their 89 years of business.

Recently, Yannuzzi was approached by Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, to demolish two historic dormitories. East and Davies Halls had been a cherished part of Blair Academy since 1886, but the changing needs of students, faculty and staff required a completely new approach to collaboration and learning.

A joint task force of Trustees, alumni, faculty and administrators investigated the possibilities and determined that the best investment in Blair Academy's continued goals of providing a positive and fulfilling academic environment was the creation of a new building. The Center for Innovation and Collaboration (CIC) will be a new, modern building that will be constructed in the footprint of East and Davies Halls.

A Promising New Future

The new CIC building will be the hub of a flexible, contemporary approach to learning centered around project-focused learning spaces that will enhance the lives of students and faculty alike. The fine arts department will gain much-needed additional space, and the new building will allow Blair's technology classes to be consolidated from four buildings into one.

It is estimated that the investment for the construction of this project will be $14 million dollars.

"Blair has been a part of the community for over 150 years, it was around when my grandfather James Yannuzzi first began our business nearly 90 years ago. I'm honored to provide them with the demolition work that they need to move forward with the construction and ensure that their students have the best education possible."

A Quick and Safe Demolition

The Yannuzzi Group worked with the Academy to set a demolition schedule that worked best for the overall project, while minimizing disruption to the students. "It's important to keep the disturbance on campus to a minimum," Yannuzzi said. "Nothing is quite as distracting or irritating as dust and noise. That's why we kept to an aggressive timeline and used a dust-free demolition method during deconstruction."

As with every Yannuzzi project, safety is a primary concern. In order to ensure the safety of both the students, faculty and demolition teams, the site was fenced off and safety protocols carefully followed for all parts of the deconstruction process.

The Yannuzzi Group was able to complete the demolition in just one month, allowing new construction to begin quickly and Blair Academy to move into the next phase of their development.

Honoring Our Past

There were generations of fond memories within East and Davies Halls. To honor this, in addition to their normal recycling and salvage operations, Yannuzzi separated and preserved hundreds of bricks from the original building to be offered to alumni and faculty as a memento of their time within those walls.
