DEHRADUN, India - June 10, 2016 - PRLog -- University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has already got its 90 percent students placed in various sectors of engineering even before graduation. The cooperative and collaborative efforts of the career services team, faculty and future professionals passing from UPES yet again bore fruit when the placement records went higher in 2016. The year proved great for the eligible graduates of B. Tech. from UPES College of Engineering Studies.

The year has been a landmark for placements as it recorded students getting engineering jobs at popular companies in large numbers. It is the unique combination of global exposure and industry experience at UPES that made College of Engineering Studies, a preferred option for recruiters. So, out of all graduates, 87 percent from the B. Tech. courses, 98 percent from B. Tech. Computer Science and 69 percent from M. Tech. were placed this time.

Excellent Placement Record

The excellent placement record is evident when we throw light over the placement 2015 highlights. In this year, the young batch of computer science and engineering aspirants were offered placements in leading corporate houses as they were running after collaborating academically with IBM. So, the outgoing batch had jobs in hand much before their results were declared. Their intelligence and knowledge was quite remarkable when the interviews were conducted.

Continuing the trend, 80 percent of computer science and engineering students got offers before graduating. And, the overall number was greater than 10 percent since every aspirant from the B.Tech. CIT stream was already placed. What has attracted more employers to this course today is the advent of e-commerce enterprises as well as a need to automate business operations by using web technologies.

Start-Ups Demand Professionals Today

Thus, the doors opened to establish small-scale start-ups that further triggered the demand for information technology professionals across different domains. Some of the emerging areas under this domain include software development, managed services, consultation and business intelligence. Despite all this, it is not a cakewalk. So, the university runs a Placement Selection Improvement Programme with the Office of Career Services to groom future professionals in employability skills.

Placement Selection Improvement Programme

Since the day of their admission, all students are individually monitored for their overall personality rather than just focusing on grades. This programme bridges the gap between theory and its practical application. This makes them acquainted with the prerequisites for selection during campus placements. The arrangement trains them in soft skills and communication through extempore, CV writing, interview skills, corporate etiquette, group discussion, presentation skills and team spirit.

Thereafter, group discussion and mock interviews are conducted in the presence of an internal coordinator, HR professional and a domain specific professional. It is helpful for students in giving them an insight about their knowledge level, personality and skills, hence, ensuring their 90 percent placement results.
