Duffels4Kids awarded $20,000 to facilitate philanthropy project

MIAMI - June 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Duffels4Kids is pleased to announce it has been awarded $20,000 from Medtronic to facilitate one of its employee philanthropic efforts to support Florida's children in need. More than 300 Medtronic employees will stuff 500 duffels with various items, such as beach towels, beach toys, coloring books and toiletry items for teens, during the Surgical Innovations Field Philanthropy (SIFPI) NTM Event June 14 at the Hilton Diplomat in Hollywood, Florida.

"We are honored that Medtronic has chosen Duffels4Kids to facilitate this event," said T. LaShaun Wallace, president of Duffels4Kids. "This is such a wonderful way for these employees to show the kids in foster care that 'somebody cares.'"

In Florida, there are more than 22,000 children in foster care, which means on any given day hundreds of children could be carrying their belongings in a trash bag.

"People who aren't involved in child welfare usually don't know that children in foster care sometimes have to carry their belongings in trash bags and are shocked when they realize that it is a real problem," Wallace said. "So we applaud Medtronic for encouraging their employees to take up this cause wholeheartedly."

Duffels4Kids will distribute the duffels to children at its Celebrations4Kids events and at various child welfare conferences around the state.
