Follow on Google News | Duffels4Kids awarded $20,000 to facilitate philanthropy projectMedtronic, a global healthcare solutions company, will provide 500 duffels stuffed with gifts to children in Florida's foster care system.
By: Duffels4Kids "We are honored that Medtronic has chosen Duffels4Kids to facilitate this event," said T. LaShaun Wallace, president of Duffels4Kids. "This is such a wonderful way for these employees to show the kids in foster care that 'somebody cares.'" In Florida, there are more than 22,000 children in foster care, which means on any given day hundreds of children could be carrying their belongings in a trash bag. "People who aren't involved in child welfare usually don't know that children in foster care sometimes have to carry their belongings in trash bags and are shocked when they realize that it is a real problem," Wallace said. "So we applaud Medtronic for encouraging their employees to take up this cause wholeheartedly." Duffels4Kids will distribute the duffels to children at its Celebrations4Kids events and at various child welfare conferences around the state. About Duffels4Kids Duffels4Kids fulfills a need for foster children who are often shuttled from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag. The duffels, which are provided free of charge, give them a small sense of comfort, offering some solace to children who have left most of their familiar belongings behind.
