NASHVILLE, Tenn. - June 6, 2016 - PRLog -- The Tennessee Kidney Foundation (TKF) today announced that Heather Corum Powell has been selected as the new chief executive officer,  effective June 6, 2016. As the TKF's new CEO, Powell's top priority will be to build awareness in Tennessee about the vital kidney care resources provided by the TKF.

"We want to provide resources to Tennesseans affected by kidney disease," said Ron Carter, TKF board president. "It's important to have senior leadership that is passionate about this vision. We believe Heather's experience and qualifications will help unite the community leaders and donors in support of this cause."

Since 1969, the TKF has united Tennesseans in the fight against kidney disease. Evidence of the TKF commitment is seen all around the community where the TKF provides kidney disease screenings at churches, schools and walks. The addition of a new full-time CEO will only strengthen the TKF's mission, which is to improve the health and wellbeing of Tennesseans affected by kidney disease, through education, prevention, treatment, advocacy, and promotion of organ donation.

As the Development Director at Ronald McDonald House for 10 years, Powell has gained significant experience in nonprofit brand building. Prior to her role of Development Director she worked for Habitat for Humanity as the Resource Development Manager. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for developing nonprofit programs and maximizing limited resources to reach a wide audience.

"I am honored to have been selected at the TKF's next CEO. It is a privilege to work for an organization that provides precious health resources to so many citizens. Without the TKF, many dialysis patients would not be able to afford the transportation costs to and from their dialysis treatments, or receive dental care, which is not covered by Medicare," said Powell.

The TKF relies on funds generated from the public to provide valuable resources back to the community, such as free kidney disease screenings, patient assistance programs and prevention education.  Every year, the TKF meets thousands of requests for help by distributing more than 75% of its operating budget to kidney patients through its assistance programs.
