MORRISTOWN, N.J. - June 3, 2016 - PRLog -- The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Louis Berger (http://www.louisberger.com/) as a winner of their 2016 Bronze Engineering Excellence Award for work on the Bridge No. 456 Replacement I-195 Ramp over Warren Ave. project in East Providence, Rhode Island.

The 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees MA State Senator Karen Spilka and MA Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack.

Louis Berger, headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, was retained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) to implement a variety of Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques on the 57-year-old three-span bridge located at the on-ramp to Interstate 195 westbound.  The accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques, which in their totality were new to the RIDOT, significantly reduced bridge closure time from 11 months to 22 days.

"The winning projects exemplify ingenuity and professionalism and represent the breadth of engineering's contribution to our everyday lives," said ACEC/MA President David Vivilecchia. "They are outstanding examples of how engineers connect communities, provide safe and reliable water and energy, and make our buildings safe and efficient. The professional engineers and their colleagues at our member firms are dedicated to working on quality infrastructure, which wouldn't otherwise exist. These outstanding projects are but a few examples of the quality work designed by Massachusetts and Rhode Island engineering firms."
