Irvine BMW is Happy to Confirm, BMW releases the Stunning 2002 Hommage Concept Car

IRVINE, Calif. - May 24, 2016 - PRLog -- Back in 1966, BMW was already setting the standard on sports sedans with its 02 series.  Now, 50 years later, BMW is celebrating the anniversary of the 02 series with yet another stunning Hommage concept car.

This aggressive car, reminiscent of the 02 series, was designed around BMW's new M2.  Unlike the M2, the latest in BMW's M-series, the 2002 Hommage concept car will not make it to production.  The Hommage concepts are designed to pay tribute to the all-time great models.

Just last weekend, all the Hommage concepts were brought together, along with a couple BMW Motorrad and a MINI Hommage, for the first time in Lake Como, Italy.  The concepts pointed back to iconic vehicles, like the E30, the classic 6- and 8-series, and a few M Coupes.

The intense body design of the 2002 Hommage might spark some conflict, but that is more or less the point: get people excited.  BMW's Hommage concept cars have been doing just that for the past ten years, ever since the Mille Miglia Concept, built to honor the original 328 racer, was released in 2006.

2016 marks BMW's 100^th year as a carmaker.  On March 7^th, 1916, BFW (Bayerische Flugzeugwerke) was founded, and was later acquired by BMW six years later.  Nonetheless, BMW traces its origins back to the original BFW plant.  Over the last century, BMW has been creating some true icons.  One need only look at the dazzling Hommage concepts to see how proud BMW is of their impressive history.
