Peconic Landing receives final approvals for Opening of Expansion

GREENPORT, N.Y. - May 24, 2016 - PRLog -- Peconic Landing is proud to announce it has received the necessary regulatory approvals to open the doors to new health services and lifestyle amenities on the North Fork.

The expansion includes 46 new apartments for residential living and enhancements to its Community Center. New amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, aerobics studio, massage room, juice bar, art studio, and two smart classrooms. Enhancements to existing areas include a new mail room, an expanded Bistro-style café and updates to The Market convenience shop.

Peconic Landing is now welcoming individuals for care at Harbor South, the East End's first memory support neighborhood. Harbor South features 16 private accommodations with multiple common areas designed for purposeful living. It includes an outdoor "discovery" garden known as The Elinor Murphy May Garden, made possible by a donation from The May Foundation. Peconic Landing worked with experts from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, on the design of the garden which features herbs, fruits and other tactile plants meant to pique the curiosities of those living with cognitive disorders.

The organization also offers resort-lifestyle care at The Bluffs, its new state-of-the-art short-term rehabilitative care center. Individuals can receive care in an outdoor physical therapy courtyard complete with a putting green and basketball hoop. A unique selection of conditions affecting mobility are also featured including grass, gravel, steps, slopes and more; designed to prepare individuals for a vibrant return to everyday life.

Upgrades and improvements were also made to existing care neighborhoods including The Shores, an award-winning skilled nursing center, and Harbor North for assisted living, which is still in the renovation process. The not-for-profit organization broke ground on the $44 million expansion in September 2014, completing construction within 18 months.

To provide these new services and amenities, the organization has expanded its team of hospitality and health care professionals, filling more than 60 new positions throughout the community. Peconic Landing celebrated the new additions with a Grand Opening event and ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 21, 2016. More than 300 people joined in on the celebration, which featured informational tours of each of the new spaces.

"This project was a collaboration of efforts between multiple people and partners. I would like to thank our members, our Board of Trustees, our incredibly talented team, and the advisors and legislative representatives who helped make this possible," said Robert J. Syron, President and CEO of Peconic Landing. "The expansion of Peconic Landing allows us to offer our members and the greater community access to services that are one of a kind."

Sandra K. Novick, Chair of Peconic Landing's Board of Trustees, said, "This expansion reflects an incredible achievement across all disciplines at Peconic Landing.  It was a journey for all involved, requiring strategic focus and dedication to reach this goal. We are tremendously proud to bring improved amenities and facilities, including the memory support neighborhood, to Peconic Landing members and the wider community."

Suffolk County Legislator Al Krupski said, "The leadership that accomplished this project is very impressive. Peconic Landing's commitment is not only to their business but also to the whole community.  Congratulations, and thank you."
