Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Announces Dinosaur Train™ Series, June 18-19 and 25-26
Historic Railroad to Partner with New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Bringing Buddy's Educational Adventures to Life for the Entire Family
By: Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
The railroad will host 12 Dinosaur Train-themed excursions, three each day, the weekends of June 18-19 and June 25-26. Tickets may be purchased by calling (888) 872-4607. The officially-licensed events are a collaboration between The Jim Henson Company and Rail Events, Inc., a sister company of the D&SNGRR that coordinates licensed special events, event promotions, merchandising, and related activities to railroad and museum operators throughout the United States and Canada.
For the first time in the event's history, the D&SNGRR is partnering with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and its team of experienced paleontologists to provide Dinosaur Train riders with valuable educational information. During each excursion, museum representatives will be on hand to show off various fossils, share insightful details about specific dinosaur species, and assist guests with fun dinosaur-oriented activities.
The family-friendly outings, which feature the curious and lovable young Tyrannosaurus rex Buddy and his adoptive Pteranodon family, keep guests engaged with Dinosaur Train songs and sing-a-longs, on-board snacks, and natural history presentations about dinosaurs and their habitats. Once the train reaches the Nature Trackers Adventure Area, guests will have 90 minutes to participate in exciting activities and challenges, including a fossil dig, dinosaur tracking, walking like dinosaurs, dinosaur education, a live animal show, face painting, temporary tattoos, live entertainment, and photo opportunities with Buddy and his friends.
"Over the past five years, Dinosaur Train-themed excursions have become popular, early-summer traditions for many families with young children who are fans of the PBS Kids program and interested in learning more about these fascinating prehistoric creatures," said Allen C. Harper, co-owner, chairman, and chief executive officer of American Heritage Railways, Inc., the parent company of the D&SNGRR and Rail Events, and the architect and executive producer of the Dinosaur Train event series. "More importantly, these special events reflect our continued commitment to staging fun, interactive, and family-friendly events which are enjoyable for parents and children alike, and offer unique, hands-on learning opportunities for guests of all ages."
"The Dinosaur Train TV series, and the railroad's themed excursions, are fantastic, well-designed vehicles which get children and their parents excited about science, natural history, and paleontology,"
Dinosaur Train is an Emmy-nominated and Parents' Choice Silver Honor TV series which consistently ranks in the top-10 shows for children ages two to five. Each half-hour episode, produced using computer-generated imagery (CGI) animation, features Buddy, a preschool-aged t. rex, and his adoptive Pteranodon family traveling on a special train to meet all kinds of dinosaurs, and have whimsical adventures through prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans. Created by Craig Bartlett, the series is produced by The Jim Henson Company, and co-produced by Singapore animation company Sparky Animation with original support from the Singapore Media Development Authority. U.K. production and financial support is provided by Ingenious Media.
